Garage Sale June 2
Here are some of Emmanuel's current Outreach activities:
- Breakfast on Broadway (also known as BoB): A free breakfast offered from 7:30 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. the second Saturday morning of every month. Recently, about 70 people have eaten the early morning meals.
- Mexico Mission: Emmanuel members travel to Mexico with others from the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma to help with housing and other needs.
- Prayer Pups: Hand-sewn and decorated "pups" are given to Unity Health Center for use in the chaplaincy program.
- Kairos cookie bake: Emmanuel bakes cookies to be used during Kairos weekends, which is spiritual program inside prisons.
- Nursing home adoptions: Cards and gifts are sent to several local nursing home residents who have no family in this area. At Christmas, we often visit those residents and sing carols.
- Garage Sale: You clean out your closets, Emmanuel sells it during the annual Garage Sale Fund-raiser. Proceeds go back to more Outreach projects, such as donating to the teachers in our congregation.
- Mardi Gras: The annual event that's becoming known as the party not to miss! A gourmet meal, live and silent auction, music, mimes and more make this an evening where parishioners and community members interact. Outreach members cook, decorate, gather and sell tickets and revel in the fun.
- Camp New Hope: Parishioners donate disposable cameras, which support this summer camp for children whose parents are incarcerated. Emmanuel members also have worked during the camp and the Outreach Committee sponsors children to attend.
- Warmth for the Winter: "Ornaments" of gloves and stocking caps on Emmanuel's tree at Christmas go toward making winter warmer for those in need.
- Fill the Sacks. At Christmas each year, the Outreach Committee helps fill 25 paper bags with items that are distributed to the elderly and disabled. We have a list of suggested items. The Outreach Committee, having limited monies, can only purchase some of the items. Each member of the congregation is asked to help so we can fill the sacks with everything on the list. If you can help, call Nancy Langley at 273-3804.
- Outreach Meetings: The 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm.
We also supprt several Shawnee organizations with money throughout the year, including: Volunteer Health Clinic, Project Safe, the Shawnee Family Promise and Project H.E.A.R.T.
